Oat and Barley Breakfast Porridge

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup steel-cut oats
  • 1/2 cup pearl barley
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • Fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds for topping

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine oats, barley, and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grains are tender and the mixture is creamy.
  3. Stir in the milk, cinnamon, salt, and honey or maple syrup. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Serve hot, topped with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds as desired.
