- Oat and Barley Breakfast Porridge
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup steel-cut oats
- 1/2 cup pearl barley
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- Fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds for topping
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine oats, barley, and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grains are tender and the mixture is creamy.
- Stir in the milk, cinnamon, salt, and honey or maple syrup. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds as desired.
