Pasture-Raised Mangalitsa: A Pork Experience Unlike Any Other

Non GMO, no soy, no antibiotics – just exceptional Mangalitsa pork raised right, with flavor that conventional pork can't match.

A Family Legacy of Farming in the Heart of Texas.

Rooted in Tradition, Growing for the Future.

At Honey Pot Farmstead, we're not just raising pork – we're reviving what pork is meant to be. Our rare Mangalitsa pigs, often called "The Wagyu of Pork," deliver an eating experience that's worlds apart from conventional grocery store meat.

The difference is immediately visible – our pork is richly red, not pale white. The fat melts below room temperature, creating a succulent, buttery experience with each bite. This exceptional quality comes from our commitment to raising these special animals the right way: on pasture, with a special millet and peanut finishing diet (non gmo corn, soy free), and for a full 16+ months to develop complete flavor.

As a family-owned farm in Corsicana, Texas, every aspect of our operation reflects our dedication to quality. From rotational grazing to small-batch processing, we're hands-on at every stage. When you choose Honey Pot Farmstead, you're not just getting premium pork – you're supporting sustainable farming and bringing an extraordinary culinary experience to your table.

Your Pork Shouldn't Be White

Conventional pork is bred for leanness, resulting in pale meat lacking flavor and moisture. One look at our Mangalitsa pork tells a different story – the meat is richly red with beautiful marbling throughout. This isn't just a visual difference. The deep color indicates higher myoglobin content and intramuscular fat, translating directly to more flavor and moisture in every bite. When you cook our pork, you'll notice it stays juicy and tender, even if you accidentally overcook it a bit.

A Family Farm with a Flavor Mission

Behind every package of Honey Pot Farmstead pork is the Mitchell family – Jeffrey, Sherryne, and our grown children who help around the farm. What began as a continuation of our Texas farming heritage evolved after a life-changing culinary discovery in Barcelona, where we experienced pork with flavor and texture unlike anything available back home.

That experience sparked our journey to raise Mangalitsa pigs, a heritage breed known for exceptional quality. Today, our family tends to approximately 130 pigs, rotating them through pastures, monitoring their health, and ensuring they receive the specialized care that results in truly remarkable pork.

The name "Honey Pot" itself comes from Jeffrey's nickname for Sherryne – a personal touch that reflects how this farm is truly an extension of our family. When you choose our pork, you're not supporting a corporation – you're supporting a family committed to raising food the right way, with patience, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

About Our Pork

What makes Mangalitsa pork different from regular pork?

Mangalitsa pork is often called "The Wagyu of Pork" for good reason. The differences are substantial:

  • Color: Our pork is richly red, not pale white like conventional pork
  • Marbling: Exceptional intramuscular fat creates juicy, flavorful meat
  • Fat Quality: The fat melts below room temperature, creating a buttery mouthfeel
  • Flavor: More complex, robust flavor profile than conventional pork
  • Texture: More tender and succulent due to the marbling and fat composition

These differences result from both the genetics of the Mangalitsa breed and our specialized raising practices.

Why is your pork red instead of white?

The rich red color of our Mangalitsa pork comes from higher myoglobin content (the protein that carries oxygen in muscle tissue) and our raising practices. Conventional pork has been bred for leanness, resulting in meat that's pale and often dry when cooked. Mangalitsa pigs retain their natural characteristics, including rich red muscle tissue that's full of flavor and moisture.

What do you feed your pigs?

Our pigs enjoy a natural diet that includes:

  • Free foraging on pasture grasses and plants
  • A specialized finishing program of millet and peanut (18% protein)
  • Non GMO, soy free fed
  • No artificial growth promoters

This diet contributes significantly to the exceptional taste and quality of our pork.

How are your pigs raised?

Our Mangalitsa pigs are:

  • Raised on pasture with plenty of space to roam and forage
  • Rotated through one-acre paddocks to ensure fresh ground
  • Raised for 16+ months (versus 5-6 months for conventional pork)
  • Never given antibiotics that would enter the food chain
  • Tended daily by the Mitchell family

We believe happy pigs make exceptional pork, so we prioritize natural behaviors and quality of life.

Do you use antibiotics?

We never sell meat from animals that have received antibiotics. Animal welfare is our priority, so in the rare case that a pig requires antibiotics for health reasons, we'll provide appropriate treatment but will not include that animal in our food program.

What does "below room temperature melting point" mean?

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Mangalitsa pork is the quality of its fat. Unlike conventional pork fat, which can be firm and waxy, Mangalitsa fat begins to melt at around 70°F. This means the fat literally melts in your mouth, creating a buttery, luxurious eating experience. It also means the fat renders more completely during cooking, basting the meat from within for exceptional juiciness.
